What was found was that some how protein influenced the expression of cancer genes. It also references how children in the Philippines who were "well nourished" had a higher prevalence of liver cancer that those who were poor and under nourished when peanut butter that was unknowingly contaminated with aflatoxin from fungus was introduced to improve the children's protein intake.
The results were that the farmers who could not afford meat and only ate it occasionally but had a high vegetable diet, not to mention they had more daily exercise due to daily labor, had less occurrences of colon cancer in particular compared those who could eat meat every day or even every meal. It was all retrospective in its observations in cancer risk between poor farmers and the more affluent members of the community.
